European casino online operators are telling lawmakers that online gambling prevents cheating on sports bets because would-be fixers are unable to generate wagers large enough to profit from their schemes. According to industry representatives, technology at online casinos and sports betting sites significantly reduces the effectiveness of match corruption. The European Sports Security Association, created by online gambling operators in Europe to detect and report unusual betting patterns and suspicious gaming, says online wagering helps remove much of the danger of corruption by its very nature. Michael Summer, public relations manager at sports betting site Interwetten, that scandals sweeping soccer did not earn profits online, because systems in place would identify suspicious betting patterns. “We have suffered in the past due to manipulated results, but we haven’t been hurt at all by the current scandal, that’s because we have a risk management system that can block attempts at cheating at an early stages.” Micheal Summer said. “All of our customers are identifiable and can’t get away with using pseudonyms and false identities more than once or twice, that makes Internet gaming operators far more secure than traditional betting shops.” Summer added. On the other hand, Declan Hill, a British investigative journalist says the hundreds of corrupt soccer results being uncovered in Europe and Asia aren’t caused by regulated online casinos and sportsbooks across Europe, but the massive underground gambling market in Asia and Eastern Europe. “In Asia, the gambling market is enormous – bigger than Las Vegas and the European bookmakers combined, It’s huge and most of it is illegal. It’s easier to hide a fraud inside a covert, criminal industry.” Declan Hill said.

Also he mentioned that legal and reliable casino online we can get casino bonuses and sports betting sites. The online records of identities and transactions bring a level of distinctness that scammers need to avoid, and technology allows the detection of unusual betting amounts and patterns, especially on more unheard-of contests that tend to be the prey of corruptive influences. As many as 200 matches may have trade-off results across international borders and involving a host of players and referees. However, legal online sports betting services say they were not targeted by the cheaters, as they would be able to spot the fixed matches and identify participants.

Gettin’ Scroogie With Microgaming This Christmas

you know it’s that time for Microgaming Software to unveil a new batch of online casino games, including an all new Santa Claus themed video slot. You now, basically take a standard 25-payline video slot, throw in a smiling Santa wild symbol, candy cane multiplier, sprig of holly free spins trigger – oh, and let’s not forget a bonus round consisting of a selection of wrapped presents under a Christmas tree – and Wallah! It’s a new Christmas slot! and keep playing casino ,

Why so nihilistic Sweetie, you ask? Well, other than the fact that, after play online blackjack, just minutes ago, I saw The Road with Viggo Mortgansen (I hope I’m spelling his name right for that man, who I think I have my first man-crush on, deserves an Oscar for his work in this film., which despite the darkness, struck a poignant chord), let’s just say that I love eating my own words. Mmmmm, so tasty!

So yes, there is a new Holiday slot machine coming out with Microgaming’s next casino game launch on December 1, 2009. However, unlike my aforementioned description of any old knockoff slot, this one is based off the classic Charles Dickens tale, A Christmas Carol. You know the one I mean. Good’ol Scrooge, the Ghost of Christmas Past, the Ghost of Christmas Present, and (I’ll give you a guess in the dark), the Ghost of Christmas Future.

Heck, you would have thought it had already been developed into a slot machine by now. I mean, it’s been made into children’s stories, play’s, musicals, movies (God knows what else), the only thing that would be missing was getting a scantily clad Lara Croft Tombraider in the plot somehow.Not to change the point (not that I even had a point), but I have a theory that one of the reasons why the “Lara Croft Tombraider” video slot has been so successful is simply because of the fact that Croftie is a hottie. Yes, sure the movie was a box office smash hit. But don’t you think a big part of it is because of Miss Jolie?

Getting back on track, the Christmas Carol video slot does sound like a keeper. It offers 50,000 coins in the base game, with 100,000 in the free spins bonus round and an additional 5,000 credits in a bonus round that is set at Scrooge’s Christmas dinner table. The unique thing about the free spins feature is that winning selections provide either one free spin or engage a countdown of calendar days leading up to Christmas, ultimately triggering as many free spins present in the bonus counter.

Other online casino games included in Microgaming’s latest launch include “Buffet Bonanza” and “Tribal Treasure”, both of which are multi-line video slots offering bonus rounds, multiplied winnings and free spins. The lone new table game (there’s always at least one table game), is a Gold Series Vegas 3 Card Rummy offering an elite wagering environment and a 4 to 1 payout with jackpots and side bets.

UK Online Poker Boom

the UK online poker industry isn’t doing as well as it once was. At least that’s what the analysts are saying. But wait just a darn-tootin’ second! Not everybody thinks it’s accurate to say the UK online poker boom has fizzled out. And just who are these analysts anyways?

Well, according to the market research firm, Mintel, the numbers speak for themselves and online poker revenue is indeed beginning to subside. And no, Mintel is not a middle-aged, overweight card shark. Mintel is the internationally reputed consumer, media and market research company that got it’s digs researching food and drink market trends back in 1972. Founded in London, Mintel now operates offices in Chicago, Australia and China, bringing in over 500,000 group website hits per month and stealing over 10,000 press mentions every year.

In other words, blowing off Mintel’s market analyst is not like blowing off Sarah Palin’s new book “Going Rogue”. However, according to a recent eGaming Review Magazine op-ed blog post by online poker affiliate and former Party Poker room manager, Bill Rini, Mintel’s analysis leaves out several key points and is too quick to say that online poker has subsided in the UK.

Here’s the thing. Mintel is not necessarily saying the UK poker room boom is over. They have simply reported numbers. Others within the online gambling industry – the likes of gaming news editors – are opining these numbers are “suggesting” the boom is over.

Rini, on the other hand, says the industry is contracting more so than it is subsiding. For all you illiterates like myself, this means that while the industry continues to grow, business is simply being consolidated. The big online poker rooms are doing more business while the smaller guys are doing less. It’s the same thing you often see happen in the retail market, and Rini gets his point across by comparing this analysis to interviewing a few local shops (leaving out the big giants like Wal-mart and Home Depot), and deducing that retail is down overall.

If you ask me, it’s a good point. Mintel’s numbers do not even include the amount of online poker traffic that is brought in by the likes of Poker Stars and Full Tilt, which being privately owned company’s, are not required to report financial results. There’s absolutely nothing to refute the possibility that UK online poker players are leaving brand-name UK poker sites like Will Hill and Ladbrokes to throw down cards at Poker Stars. In fact, considering the popularity and size of Poker Stars (more online players than any other poker room), this is a very good probability. So, while overall business with publicly traded UK online poker rooms is down a bit, that doesn’t mean UK bettors are playing less online poker.

Have More Fun Gambling Online – You’ll Win More

So where am I going with all of this you ask? Well, what I was trying to demonstrate (I hope you went along with it) was that most people, myself included, far too often forget to have fun, laugh and look at the lighter side of things. We’re always walking around with a serious expression on our faces, or if we do laugh at all, it’s a chuckle of irony or dare I say cynicism. C’mon, you know that’s the worst of all. Growing cynical! Oh my, the humanity!

And it doesn’t matter if we are actually engaged in an activity that is supposed to be fun anyways. We’re too focused on other things that we forget to just allow the “funness” to wash over us. Case in point: Gambling. Ya, I know, how convenient, right? Like how I slipped that one in there, huh? But really people, online gambling is supposed to be FUN. Sure, most people do it because of the chance of winning money. But we still have to remember that it’s entertainment, and that there is no guarantee you will win – no matter how much strategy you use.

Of course, using a sound mathematical strategy will help increase your overall odds. But remember, the theoretical return on all casino games results from a fluctuation of wins and losses – and you simply can’t predict when a string of losses is going to befall you. So, what you do when this happens, besides call it quits or take a break? Well, you do like I’ve been trying to get you to do. Yell out loud at the top of your lungs (in a Southern accent, of course) “I do declare”! What’s that? Your blackjack hand just busted? I do declare! One card short of a winning hand? Well, I do declare!

And yes, if you find yourself saying “I do declare” more than Sarah Palin says “that was a double standard” in her new book, well then, maybe you should call it quits for the day. But in the meantime people, don’t forget to have fun when your gambling in the online casino. If you’re too serious, all you’re doing to do is get real excited when you win, then real angry on the turn of a dime, depressed and anxiety ridden, and possibly on the verge of a heart attack. Now, that doesn’t sound like fun, does it. Instead, let that little kid out (the responsible little kid) and tell yourself ahead of time that you are going to have fun no matter if you win or lose.

I’ve been told, you’ll actually start to win more too. Don’t believe me? Well, I do declare!!!

The Inside View of a Roulette Wheel

Roulette was one of the most popular casino games in Europe, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In fact, to this day there are always herds of roulette system players, still trying to figure out how to beat this game. Of course, the only true winning roulette “strategy” is to own a roulette game and let the gamblers do what they do best, which is to gamble until all the money is gone. But this time-proven fact, backed with sound mathematics, doesn’t stop thousands of people still try to beat this game with various systems and pseudo theories, such as the Martingale System described on my parody site, National Center for Irresponsible Gambling. Just search the online forums for “winning roulette systems” and you’ll see how many people are still trying to figure out how to win at roulette. Some ever swear by their systems. Of course, those are not the same people that have been trying to beat this game in past centuries. As the old saying goes, A sucker is born every minute.

This post is definitely not about how to beat the game of roulette. It is simply a post to show you the inside mechanics of a roulette wheel. Here’s a picture.

This is a photo of a display model of a standard casino roulette wheel, with a wedge sliced out, so people (i.e. potential customers) can see a cross-section of the inside. Every part is fabricated to a very tight tolerance, to ensure proper balance. Furthermore, when the wheel is being installed the technicians must use a special level, especially made for roulette wheels. That is the most important part of the installation, because if the wheel is not leveled, it will have a bias. That bias may not help you predict what numbers the ball is likely to land in, but it will cause the ball to start its descent always at the same spot.

Casino Equipment: Angel Eye Baccarat Dealing Shoe

Casino equipment, and gambling accessories in general, have come a long way since the first knuckle-bones were rolled a few thousand years ago. With all the electronic gadgets at our disposal it was only a matter of time for some of these gadgets to find their way into casinos. Well, actually, the first high-tech gadgets that found their way into casinos were most likely brought in by casino cheats, with the intention to be used to defraud the casinos. But if casinos want to compete with the cheats, they too have to use high-tech solutions to combat their enemies. And the cat and mouse game continues.

The casino gadget that I want to describe in this thread was not invented to combat any of the numerous gadgets that the cheats have been known to bring into casinos. This gadget was invented to put an end to one of the oldest baccarat scams: switching cards.

Let me introduce you to the Angel Eye electronic baccarat shoe.

If you’ve ever been in a casino in Macau you’ve already seen these shoes in action. These electronic baccarat shoes have already been accepted as the industry standard throughout Asia. Keep in mind that gambling is actually illegal in many Asian countries, so we are strictly talking places where casino gambling is regulated.

Switching cards in baccarat was always very common in Asia. So common, in fact, that casinos were eager for someone to come up with a solution. And baccarat is by far the most popular casino game throughout Asia, so the Asian market was ready for an invention that would make it impossible to get away with switching cards, in baccarat.

Angel, a Japanese manufacturer of playing card and other casino accessories, was the company that first came up with the idea of an electronic baccarat shoe. Not only was Angel the first company to come up with this idea, they also hit the nail right in the head. Other companies followed suit, but in my opinion Angel still makes the best product; partly because they understand the Asian market better than many of their competitors that later came up with their own variations of electronic baccarat shoes.

So, how does this thing work? And what exactly does it do?

In a nutshell, the cards are bar-coded with invisible ink, on the faces. The shoe is fitted with a scanner (similar to the scanner used to read bar codes in a supermarket) that is able to read these invisible bar codes, as the cards are being dealt. This is why this shoe has a longer lip (the front where the cards come out) than conventional dealing shoes.

The shoe is connected to a central computer system. Whenever the dealer deals a card, the scanner reads the value of that card and the shoe sends the information to the computer. In baccarat, unlike blackjack, the players cannot make hit or stand decisions. So, the dealer deals up to one hit card to each one of the two hands, if the rules require that hit cards be dealt. In short, for every round of baccarat, the dealer may deal out 4 to 6 cards. As soon as these cards are dealt out the game is basically over. All the remains to be done is to turn these cards face up and determine which side won (or if it was a tie). However, although there’s nothing that can be done, once the cards are dealt, the players still take their time to turn the cards over. That’s when hearts are beating, blood pressure is rising, and adrenaline is pumping. In Macau, the usual limits for baccarat games (on the floor, not in the VIP rooms) ranges form HK$300,000 to HK$500,000; or, at today’s currency conversion rate, roughly US$39,000 to US$64,500). This is per hand, yes, just to see two damn cards (and maybe be dealt a third one). So, for that amount of money, the player feels entitled to take a couple of seconds before turning the cards over for the world to see.

That is how baccarat is traditionally played in Asia. The expression that comes to mind is “slow-play.”

So, this slow-playing also requires the players to rub the cards (for good luck) ad do all sorts of acrobatics, before the cards are finally revealed. And, of course, when the cards are handled in such way there is plenty of opportunity to do a switch. But if you switch the cards when the Angel Eye shoe is in use, you’re in trouble.

The Angel Eye shoe (well actually the system that uses this shoe) knows what cards have been dealt out of the shoe. After the player(s) show-down their cards the dealer presses a button on the shoe and the result is displayed, electronically, in a number of possible ways (depending on what options the casino purchased form the manufacturer).

The simplest option is a display on the shoe itself, where one of the three lights may light up: either “player,” “banker,” or “tie.” So, if the outcome of the live game is a win for the “banker” side and the shoe says that “player” won, the game is immediately halted and surveillance recordings are reviewed.

In a more elaborate set up there is an LCD screen at the side of the dealer, where the same results are displayed, along with images of actual cards that have been dealt. So, whatever is seen on the screen must match what had just been observed in the live game.

And that’s how the Angel Eye shoe works.

As I’ve already mentioned, other companies have come up with their own versions of electronic baccarat shoes. Some of these are pure copycats, but some companies have actually come up with some of their own innovations, so they basically just built on the Angele Eye idea. I will talk about that in a follow up post.

Online Poker Tips

Online poker has become globally acclaimed recently, with televised competitions and celebrity poker game events. Its universal appeal, though, stretches back in fact a bit further than its television scores. Over the years many types on the first poker game have been developed, including a few games that are not in reality poker anymore. Caribbean stud poker is 1 of these particular games. Regardless of the name, Caribbean stud poker is more closely related to blackjack than long-standing poker, in that the players wager against the dealer rather than the other players. The succeeding hands, are the traditional poker hands. There is no conniving or different types of boondoggle. In Caribbean stud poker, you are required to ante up prior to the croupier saying “No further wagers.” At that instance, both you and the house and of course all of the different players acquire 5 cards. After you have seen your hand and the dealer’s initial card, you need to in turn make a call wager or surrender. The call wager’s value is akin to your beginning bet, indicating that the stakes will have increased two fold. Bowing out means that your wager goes instantaneously to the casino. After the wager comes the conclusion. If the casino does not have ace/king or greater, your wager is given back, including a figure in accordance with the initial wager. If the casino does have ace/king or better, you succeed if your hand is greater than the dealer’s hand. The bank pays money equal to your wager and controlled expectations on your call wager. These expectations are:

  • Even for a pair or high card
  • two to one for two pairs
  • three to one for three of a kind
  • four to one for a straight
  • five to one for a flush
  • seven to one for a full house
  • 20-1 for a 4 of a kind
  • 50-1 for a straight flush
  • 100-1 for a royal flush

Basic Strategy Playing Blackjack

Blackjack basic strategy will optimize your long term returns in blackjack.  In fact, the mathematical house edge in blackjack where the player uses solid basic strategy will be reduced to well below 1%.  Set out below is a basic strategy matrix that shows you the basic strategy move for all deal situations in the most common forms of blackjack.

The basic strategy play is the move at the intersection of the dealer’s card and your hand.

You might want to print this page out for reference during future play.

H =    Hit
S =    Stand
D =    Double down
P =    Split
H/R = Surrender if allowed, otherwise hit
H/P = Split if allowed to double after a split, otherwise hit
NOTE: Your hand less than 8 = always hit

Counting Cards

Its important to note from the outset, that you can’t count cards playing online.  Why?  Because even if you know how to count cards, each new deal in blackjack (or any card game for that matter) at online casinos, is from a full shuffled deck/shoe.  Otherwise online casinos would be basically giving money away to smart players…and we know this would never happen.  Nevertheless, if you are also a keen terrestrial gambler, or are just interested in how the pros beat the casinos, then here’s a brief summary of how to count.

By counting cards, a player can ascertain whether, at a given point during a game, he/she has an edge over the house.  The key to knowing whether or not the player has an edge over the house, is having an idea of whether the remaining cards in the deck/shoe are predominantly high, or predominantly low, as a high card rich deck swings the odds of winning in favor of the player.

Reasons for this are as follows:

  • An abundance of high cards increases the likelihood of blackjack being dealt to both the dealer…but blackjack to the player pays 3 to 2.

  • The dealer has to hit on a stiff hand (12 to 16), while the player doesn’t, and when the deck is high card rich, a stiff hand hit is more likely to bust.

  • The probability or winning from double down and split plays also increases when the deck is high card rich..

So if you know the remaining deck is high card rich, you know that you have an edge over the house – and to do this you need to track the cards already dealt.  But don’t worry, because this doesn’t necessitate memorizing every card that has been dealt, but rather tracking the cards by assigning a tag to the cards and keeping a running count of the tags.  Tags are as follows:

  • low cards (2, 3, 4, 5, 6) have the tag +1;

  • high cards (10,s, pictures and Aces) have a tag of -1;

  • the rest (7, 8, 9) have a tag of 0

The count before the first deal is 0.  As cards are dealt, you simply add the tags of every card dealt so that at any time during the game you have a running count that may be positive, negative or 0.  Now, if during the game, your count is positive, this means more low cards have been dealt than high cards, and as a result, the remaining shoe is high card rich.  At this point, your odds of winning are greater than at when the game first started…and if the count is significantly positive well into the shoe, then you may even have a significant edge over the house.

You can practice you counting at home by dealing a deck to yourself and counting as you go.  If your count is 0 when when the whole pack has been dealt, then you got it right.  Your counting really needs to be automatic before you can actually count successfully in a real game situation, because remember that you still have to think about how to play your hand, well as deal with general casino distractions.

Now you know how to count, you need to know how to bet based on the count. In simple terms, you play basic strategy, and up the ante when the count is positive, and lower the ante or sit out when the count is negative.
